Not every job on site needs the same machine. Picking the wrong one can waste time, waste money, and sometimes even make the job harder than it needs to be. So today we’re going to walk through three popular machines we hire out here at JB Tool Hire: the JCB Loadall, the backhoe loader, and the crusher and explain when each one is the right choice for your job.
We’re based across Leicester, Leicestershire, and the East Midlands, with three depots in Coalville, Loughborough, and Hinckley. So whatever your job, and wherever you’re working locally, there’s a good chance we can get the right machine to you quickly.
JCB Loadalls: The All-Rounder
A JCB Loadall, also known as a telehandler, is one of the most useful machines on any site. Think of it as a forklift with a long reach it can lift, carry, and place materials at height or across distance, which makes it brilliant for house builds, warehouse work, and general site logistics.
Best for: Lifting building materials, loading and unloading, working at height without scaffolding, moving pallets and bulky loads around site.
Why hire one: If you’re constantly moving materials around a busy site, a Loadall saves a lot of manual labour and time. It’s flexible enough to handle several different tasks in one day.
Backhoe Loaders: Two Machines in One
A backhoe loader is basically two tools in one machine a loading bucket on the front and a digging arm on the back. This makes it a great all-purpose machine for smaller to medium groundworks jobs where you need to dig and then move material without switching machines.
Best for: Digging trenches, footings, drainage work, and then loading the dug material straight into a skip or dumper without needing a second machine.
Why hire one: If your job involves both digging and shifting material, a backhoe loader can often do the whole job on its own, which saves you hiring two separate machines.
Crushers: Breaking It Down on Site
Crushers are used to break down hard materials like concrete, brick, and rubble, right there on site. Instead of paying to remove and dispose of waste material, a crusher lets you process it into usable aggregate that can often be reused on the same job.
Best for: Demolition sites, groundworks with a lot of concrete or rubble, and jobs where recycling material on site saves time and money.
Why hire one: Fewer skip runs, less waste going to landfill, and material you can actually reuse. For bigger jobs, this can add up to real savings.
So, Which One Do You Need?
Here’s a simple way to think about it:
- Moving and lifting materials around site? Go with a Loadall.
- Digging and loading in one go? Go with a backhoe loader.
- Breaking down concrete or rubble on site? Go with a crusher.
If you’re still not sure, that’s completely normal a lot of our customers aren’t either until we talk it through. Just tell us what the job involves and we’ll recommend the right equipment for you.
